I wait a few days before I publish this text. Today I had one more reason to publish it right now.
I know my headline is crazy and it is a huge statement but I have to say it for the average person like me.
I repeat you will not make money on ad.ly this year.
What happen?
Today I receive an e-mail newsletter from John Chow. (I sign up to this newsletter to stay up to date on what’s going on in this industry)
Like I said I receive this newsletter to subscribe to ad.ly. I was already an ad.ly user so I have no need to sign up from him.
As I read his newsletter some part of his text simply shock me or disturb me.
Check the section that disturbs me:
To make money with Ad.ly, your Twitter account must be at least 120 days old and you must have at least 50 followers.
My account blows those requirements and I never see a dime.

Maybe my account has no value for any advertisers. It is a possibility.
Nevertheless I have another theory. You need to have this “star” value with a lot of followers. I guess this is why many advertisers are ready to pay him up to $1000 for ONE tweet.
Sounds like a publicity stunt? I think yes. I think the $1000 for ONE tweet is easier to get when you know the CEO of ad.ly… He never really discloses that.
I hope ad.ly goes more public a little bit more. Until that day I put a hold on my project.

One more important note, I won’t promote ad.ly as hard as the few other days. If I can’t make money with it why should I recommend it?
