The reason is very simple. Facebook do not let you access the code like Myspace.

A new kid is in town. This is a new way to change your facebook layout fast.

It is not my favourite one but it is working very well so far…. No bugs right now ( I have not test it with facebook games though)

Before I tell you more, you need to know something very important.

Facebook is not Myspace…. Facebook do not let you access the code to change your layout like Myspace.

Personally, I am ok with that but not everyone likes that.

In other word, you need to install something to change your layout.

I want to be very clear, you need to install something to change your layout or do not change your facebook layouts at all.

Another very critical point is the fact that your friends need to install the same plug-in to view your new layout.

Now you know everything and you can make the right decision.

I was among the first to use digg (old version). The day I discover Twitter I left digg forever. I left digg because those stories were not so interesting and it was complicated to have what I want fast.

I’m not a huge fan of ads in my twitter streams but I understand why many people use it.

A quick example:

You love this book XYZ. The book XYZ helps you solve a huge problem. You are ready to recommend it to your friends that face the same problem.

No matter what, you are ready to talk about it. You decide to present this book XYZ to your friend. Your friend decides to buy it base on your recommendation.

Now you receive money when your friend buys it or not. Does it matter that you receive money?

At the end of the day you would recommend it anyway.

Mashable recently wrote an article and call this practice evil.

The reaction from this post was huge. The founder of sponsored tweet reacts and exposed mashable pretty badly.

I do understand the position of mashable but mashable does the same thing with paid post and endorsements tweet.

Until they close any advertisement tool on their website or on twitter, they are not in a good position to talk and teach people what to do.

This is totally hypocrite.

Mahalo fail the mom test again #mahalo

Mahalo is great but fail the mom test. I have a prescription to solve a huge problem on mahalo front page.

Recently Mahalo change is home page. The new home page is beautiful. It’s mahalo 3.0.

I love it. I love it so much that I invite my mom to test it. She had a very specific question.

Why should I switch from xp to windows 7 right now?

She writes the question in the big fat box with “ask” in front of that box.

This is where it gets ugly. She has to fill up a form to submit her question.

After she fills up that form she has to subscribe to Mahalo.

She stares at me and said your website it’s complicate. All I want is an answer.

No one can blame her for that right?

I see one huge problem in mahalo home page.

There are two boxes! This is a huge problem.

The same question lead to two different outcomes.

One box leads to an answer the other lead to nowhere.(almost)

This is the problem: mahalo.com has no relationship with mahalo answers.

I ask the same question in the search box at the top. I get the right answer right now as you can see.

This is a huge problem I think for mahalo. They need to connect both mahalo answers and mahalo pages to have one search page.

This is my prescription for mahalo:

ONE big fat search bar!

You ask a question. You may receive an answer directly from mahalo pages.

No answer there. It should lead you to request an answer from the community. The same way as it is right now.

I think mahalo will be more useful that way.

A small change can lead mahalo to not fail the mom test.

I recently stumble on an article from Jeremy Shoemaker. This internet Marketer was able to earn $15,000 for sending tweets during one month on twitter.

Yes you read correctly. He sends tweets and earns $15,000. The next question is easy.

Can you do the same?

The reality is yes.

Like Jeremy Shoemaker you need at least 70K followers. However those followers must love you. They should not follow you just to follow you. You must build a relationship with those followers.

Once you have these engaging followers on twitter, you are ready to start sending sponsored tweets.

There are many networks out there. “Most popular” so far are Ad.ly and sponsoredtweets.com. ( I don’t have no relationship with those networks but I use those two because they were the one use in this example)

Get $15,000 from twitter but lose your reputation and hide yourself forever under a rock.

You build a huge community on twitter.

What happen after you send your first sponsored tweets?

I recently receive an e-mail from Simon Owens. He shares with me an article about good use of sponsored tweets:

I highly suggest that you read this article before you send your first sponsored tweets. Otherwise your online reputation won’t be as huge as before.

Get $15,000 as a spammer or for legit business.

I’m not a huge fan of sponsored tweets because of the lack of regulation.

In e-mail marketing: you cannot send sponsored e-mail until you have a real double opt in confirmation from the user. Otherwise you are a spammer period.

I think twitter must check those ad networks because many users start to cross a line between endorsement and opinion without clear disclosure.

Everyone heard about this new window 7. They make it sounds like it is the best windows ever.

Wait before you upgrade from XP to windows 7 or…

I own a regular computer that I bought 1 month before windows Vista was out. My computer is 100% compatible with windows Vista.

Like many of you, I stay with windows XP for productivity reason.

Now I feel, it is time to ride with windows 7 but major surprises happen.

Windows 7 won’t be as smooth as the commercial.

After I run the application, a report was send.

The result was clear; I will have many compatibility problems.

Some compatibility problems are simple like upgrading many software files.

Basically I will need to buy new stuff. I’m not ready to upgrade yet and I will wait a little bit more.

You pass the test so go run with windows 7.

If you run the little application I told to download and you find no problem then you have no more excuse to run windows 7.

Last week, I decide to help my grammar with a software call Whitesmoke. I ordered but I never receive it. Whitesmoke loses a customer for life.

The Whitesmoke website is informative and converts result. In Promotion it’s all about result.

They got me. I went upstairs to get my credit card and I ordered.

Problem 1: they never record the transaction but my credit card company recorded the transaction.

Problem 2: I try again later. This time again Whitesmoke did not record the transaction but my credit card company records it.

I contact Whitesmoke to tell them that I buy but I receive no confirmation. They search but never find my two transactions.

Note that I try with two different browsers at two different time frames.

Now what can you learn from that. Like I always say, great promotion is all about result.

Test every single step of your promotion sequence, from the beginning up until the customer service and the refund service. Every step must be top notch every time.

Audit is very easy to do and can save you a lot of time, money and problems down the road.

You may have the best promotion system in place like Whitesmoke but if you cannot collect those credit card numbers, you end up with a losing business.

What you don’t know about the new FTC rules before you panic

First, you don’t need to panic about those new rules, unless you have no ethics and you are dishonest.

I read, of course, the new FTC rules and I read a lot of blog posts and many comments. There is a consensus. Many people go crazy over these rules in US.

I think those rules simply want to bring more transparency and ethics in marketing in US.

It is a good thing. I have several examples.

Let’s say a car reviewer:

He rent or buy a car and then review it. Chances are he will give an honest review of the product because he is a real user.

Now the same car reviewer receives a free car and the company sends him to an exotic destination to test the car. Of course, the car company pays everything.

Do you think the car reviewer’s opinion about the car will change? I think yes because when they gives you a free gift you like more the giver and you expect more from the giver in the future.

As a consumer, with a proper disclose, about this wonderful trip, you can put the review and the opinion in a better perspective.

Bottom line: disclose any conflict of interest.

Now, there is another issue about those new rules. This issue is coming from directly because of those weight loss programs or gets rich quick schemes for example.

The vendor will bring a testimonial I lose 30 lbs in 1 week. It may be true but not everyone will reach that result. Must of the time, the vendor writes results may vary.

As a consumer, the main question is what the realistic result is. In the new rules you can not pop up one hit wonder as a testimonial. If you put a number up, you must be able to back it up with scientific proof.

If you cannot bring scientific proof do not bring numbers or facts up.

I’m not a lawyer but if you stay transparent, honest and keep it ethic, you should be safe.

This is a huge statement but it is time to face it. Sponsored tweet increase day after day.

At this pace and without rules, Ad.ly and others similar service will destroy twitter.

Not so long ago.

When we discover e-mail, it was fun and almost innocent. Everyone was waiting for the “you got mail” sound.

Marketers realise that and start sending e-mails to anyone. Suddenly, we start to receive ads e-mail all the time.

To control this madness, a new rule enters the game. You must op-in a mailing list.

It reduces the number of unwanted e-mails.

Twitter is like e-mail of 2010.

Many people are waiting after new tweets. Then many of them realise that quality is better over quantity. Therefore, many people reduce the number of people they are following.

We are here and people want quality.

Now the Ad.ly case

Ad.ly gives an opportunity to an advertiser to spread their message to a following list (like mailing list)

Any user can sign up and accept offer to spread advertisers’ idea into their list.

Where is the problem?

In e-mail marketing, if you ask for e-mail information to talk about car, the end user should not receive information about houses. He should get information about houses only if he opt-in for that information.
