I use twitter almost everyday since the very early days of twitter. (yes before this huge buzz, when having 100 000 followers lead to be the king of twitter.)
Now with millions of people twitting, I was looking for better way to use twitter that will give me the motivation to go on 5 years from now. Those are the tips that I learn and you should know too.
1) Upload a picture of you.
At the beginning, I used to have a simple avatar and nobody really notice me until I put my real picture. It gives another dimension to your twitter profile because they do not think you are a robot no more.
2) Keep your bio relevant, shot and simple
Back then, I use to put very long sentences, now I put simple word to describe myself. This is a huge change because in 5 sec anyone can have a better idea of you. I receive more quality followers.
3) use a relevant url
I change my url from my main page to my about page. Of course the bio in twitter is very short so I decide to link my twitter account to my about page on my blog. At the place, I can describe myself a little better and increase my quality followers.
4) reply and reply more
Anytime you can add something relevant and smart, you will increase you credibility but also your network. By doing that I increase, my network and I meet great people down the road.
5) Tweet with link
A tweet can be very short but you can increase their value with a quote like a link to a picture, video or article. (Watch out to not self promote yourself to much)
6) watch your last tweet
Before someone follows you, he may check your last tweet so you want to leave twitter with smart one. A good trick is to leave with relevant quote or as simple as good night.
7) tell me who you follow and will tell what you like
Follow relevant people and relevant people will follow you. That a great rule because it will motivate you to come back on twitter if you follow anybody just like that you will lose interest. I can already see many people losing interest as quickly as 1 month.
