Webs 2.0 are bad business: best example Myspace YouTube twitter and facebook

Is web 2.0 are the future?
Do not make me wrong I love facebook and Myspace as a service.
There is not a day when I am not on facebook or Myspace. I also think YouTube or twitter are simply genius system that change the way we are using the internet today.
As you can see, I have no problem with those services.
Nobody will discuss how useful does websites can be but we all know that hundreds of millions visitors have a price. I mean from engineer domains hosting technician security marketing and the list goes on. You can easily reach thousands of dollars every month. At this rate, even if people invest in your startup you will need to make long-term profit.
Where is the money in web 2.0?
Most web 2.0-use simple advertising but the only problem …people who use Myspace facebook YouTube or twitter does not care about advertising. Therefore, some companies like facebook promote their advertising system by flirting with privacy.
(Is there a privacy problem there.)
What will be my monetization system?
Friend’s fans call it whatever you want to call it.
Most artists or any people, who want to promote their name, product, want to be seen by the biggest crowd possible.
As you know, many people get famous because of those new social media. When those people get famous, they tend to drive those friends to their website like Tila tequila. She has her own Myspace style. The website is like a fan club social network.
Guess what she is not the only one. 50 cent drive traffic to his own Myspace style website thisis50.com. I can tell thousand of people that promote their stuff or their name by using YouTube facebook twitter and Myspace.
My unique question is would you pay 100$/month to have 25 000 people as friend or follow you on twitter. Add on those pro tools like analytic service and other stuff.
Would you buy this to keep promoting your name or product?
Only a few people need thousand and thousand friends. So why not monetize this aspect. I think this is the only solution otherwise those web 2.0 will not survive because like anything fashion goes and new product and company.
Go ask AOL who was late to make huge move ask yahoo or Microsoft. Making money today does not guarantee money tomorrow.
Advertising is fun but you need more then that you need a real solid product to offer

As a sophisticated internet user, I am a firm believer that the internet should be free. There are many services that office several levels of service including a free account with paid upgrades to Pro. I gladly paid $48 for 2 years of Flickr.com. It is a valuable service that I enjoy using and it saves me time by having the Pro account instead of numerous free photo sharing accounts scattered all over the internet.
If MySpace and Facebook started charging me to use their services, I would leave or cancel my account. Not all services are able to survive solely on advertising, but I really hope that they do.

free it is fun but any website that reach millions of viewer have to deal with monetisation. fre/pro features is a great way to make it happen. flickr is a great example.

Facebook will break down .. ..they have to do something otherwise operate the website will cost too much… seriously facebook cannot ask people to pay if you have myspace bebo hi5 around… even if they make you pay a dude somewhere will create a new social network free.. it is an endless circle
