Negative is the key

Most of humans being are very emotional. We like stories that give us some emotions. Usually the worst story is the best story. Can you imagine one second CNN with only good news? If it is good news, it must be a sensational one like “Cancer is not a problem anymore”.

Where I am going with all this? Take a second and remember what’s catch your eyes to read this article or story: sensational headlines. The same thing goes for bloggingzoom I guess.

Now, have you check the bloggingzoom front page lately. Every single post with more then 5 zooms, have one thing in commons a catchy title.

Of course you don’t reach the top with a great headline only. Your headline shouldn’t be great, it must be sensational otherwise your story won’t get more then 5 zooms.

Ok you have 5 zooms, I’m sure, you are happy. What if you could reach even more?

Let’s check the best posts out there ; can you see the same pattern?

bloggingzoom top post

The brief text has nothing to do with the post! You should tease the reader. Once I really watch carefully how CNN present their story , I understand that you can drive anyone where you want to bring him. Example:

Facebook profile problems are worst every day” This is the kind of title that catches your attention, especially if you are a facebook member

Now you can add a text like: “A lot of members get hits every day, learn what you should do to avoid this”

Now, you may want to read more about this kind of story right? If so you just win.

Bloggingzoom problems, they most solve them

blogginzoom.pngAs you can see in the last paragraph, you must see bloggingzoom as a strong advertising tool to promote your post. The traffic is bigger every day and most of all it is FREE. You must use this free tool to your advantage.

  • Put a sensational headline
  • Write a teaser text that push to read the full article
  • Your teaser text must be different from your post beginning
  • Of course, a good post that show your hard work

If you don’t respect those points, you will have bloggingzoom problems and all your posts will be one more post in the system with less then 5 zooms

Now I wonder if this post will be great enough to make a bloggingzoom record

I don’t you have to go all negative, I do say a catchy title is the right thing to have.. but some times bad news or strange news are the best story .. this is what I can see on digg for example.

  2. Blackysky says:

Blogging about blogging are doing well …Is that a measure of the blog level around bloggingzoom.

This is what I think I just realize that I only visit the blog that don’t put their post out and make me want read the rest… there is so many post every day .. I want to have the choice. To get the choice I need a brief summary.

  4. Well, I can’t agree with everything you said. I have had many posts on the front page and I certainly have not gone the negative route. I’m sure negative does get noticed sometimes but I don’t think you have to have a negative title in order to get noticed. It’s much more important to have a catchy title or to use enough keywords in the title that people are intrigued enough or interested enough to click on it.

I do think that Vic is right about the teaser. Getting the teaser right is probably the hardest part of the process and one that we everyone should work on getting right every time. I am constantly trying to improve the way I write my teasers.

Jessica is correct with point #1 in that people with avatars or logos do seem to do better because people connect to them more. I don’t completely agree with her second point because, again, I’ve had many stories that weren’t about blogging that have done well. Stories about blogging do generally do better and are the majority of the top Zooms, but I think you can still do well with other articles if they’re well written and entertaining.

Good post, and I agree with 95%. Two other things I have noticed:

    1. People who have avatars or logos, etc seem to do better, since everythone who does not have one looks identical.

    2. People who blog about blogging seem to really do well.

    Take Care!

To me this is crucial and I will be writing about this on a later day. You mentioned:

“Write a teaser text that push to read the full article”

Looking at the stats a bunch of people are having there post take number one in Google but yet they are either clicking to the front page of BZ or are just clicking out of the page and not visiting peoples post.

People need to make a great teaser and let the reader know that in there site they will have the complete great story. We sometimes assume that everybody knows how to use BZ type sites, we should not do this treat every potential reader as they do not know and tell them to come and visit you site and read the complete story.
